This was the fifth year the Korea team returned to American Christian Academy (ACA) in Dongducheon, Korea, and what a great year it was!First, as I look back, I know that without the foundation laid by the first four years, this year could not have occurred. The consistency of bringing some of the same students every year has established a trust with the children of ACA.
This year's trip consisted of many miracles that occurred around the world. We started with 17 adults and students, but due to illness and unexpected circumstances we ended up with 13. Those who could not attend supported the original team members in prayer.
As we reflected on the time we spent preparing for the trip, serving at ACA and returning to Peoria, we could count nearly 50 visible miracles and blessings. These included:
Students who were not able to attend due to illnesses and other circumstances, but yet participated in each team meeting.
Two non-Christian students dropped out of ACA before our team arrived, but we were able to witness to them while meeting with other students at ACA. We continue to hold them up in prayer as they struggle with a Christian faith.
The mother of one of our ACA students died several years ago. We were not certain that he had any other family in Korea, but he was reunited with his his grandmother during our trip.
We began teaching the first day we arrived in Korea. With God's grace, we were able to make last minute adjustments due to changing schedules and team members. Every PCS student jumped in with both feet without any questions and covered every class where needed even if it wasn't their assigned class. The week of teaching passed too quickly! We completed the weekend with a retreat for students from 7th grade through high school. Our American PCS students hosted an "Italian" dinner for the Korean PCS students. What a great international experience! By the end of the weekend, the lives of our PCS team and ACA students were changed and friendships were established for a lifetime.
