A Legacy of Determination: Audrey Sanders Sets New Standard for PCS Volleyball

It is approximately 110 miles from Peoria Christian School to Arthur Christian School.  Last Thursday, Coach Fox and the Chargers volleyball team made the trip to take on the Conquering Riders.  The fans who made the trip down were not only treated to the unique scenery of Arthur and three intense sets of volleyball, those in attendance were also able to see a historical achievement as Senior Audrey Sanders became the all-time leader in digs for the Chargers.

Audrey has been a four-year starter for the Chargers.  The previous record was held for eighteen years and set by another four-year starter, middle hitter, Laura Farney in 2007.  Audrey has amassed 830 career digs and still has seven regular season games to play.  Breaking records is nothing new to Audrey as earlier this season, she also surpassed the 1000 In-Serves mark.  The senior standout currently sits at an astounding 1,123 serves in!  Yet one more record is on the horizon as Audrey is only three aces away from breaking the career mark of 150 aces for Peoria Christian School.

Coach Fox has coached a lot of talented players in her storied career.  Yet, Audrey has set a new standard.  When asked about what Audrey has meant to the program Coach Fox shared, “Audrey has laid a foundation of determination, diligence and work ethic upon which these impressive accolades are built.  She is a model of consistency, enthusiasm and team-first mentality.”

Jim Mattson was on hand when Audrey was honored this past Monday evening when Peoria Christian hosted Brimfield.  Audrey was joined by her parents, Matt and Stephanie Sanders as Athletic Director Cory Hynek presented her with a game ball.  Prior to this special moment Audrey gave all glory to God sharing, “I am so happy God has given me the opportunity to play the game I love and accomplish so much.”

With only seven games remaining this regular season Audrey is trying to keep the team focused on the overall goal to “Strive Together” as the Chargers have their eyes set on a postseason run.
