Passing the Torch: Jacob Walton Becomes Peoria Christian’s All-Time Scoring Leader
The day was just beginning to turn into evening as a Peoria Christian Soccer legend, Jonny Lehman, joined with Charger Nation to honor the school’s new all-time scoring leader, Jacob Walton. Jonny was a member of both the 2009 and 2010 State Finals teams for Peoria Christian. He scored 37 goals in 2010 and a total of 76 career goals during his career. Coach Hynek said of Jonny, “Jonny has been vested to the soccer program from day one. That started as a player who had an incredible care and has continued throughout the years as he has invested his time and expertise in the program” Hynek continued, “it was an honor to have him back here to join us in honoring Jacob.”
It was on Saturday, August 30th that Jacob scored his 77th career goal passing Jonny. During the 2024 season Jacob Walton surpassed the single season goal scoring record by scoring 45 goals on the year. Jacob was scheduled to be joined by his parents Jay and Tina Walton as Jonny presented the game ball at midfield to honor the new all-time leading scorer in Peoria Christian history. But, in true Jacob fashion he wanted his whole team involved in the presentation because he understands the gift of being on a team. Jacob shared, “It is special to be a part of the team. When I score the whole team is a part of it.”
When asked about his new all-time leading scorer Coach Hynek smiled and said, “Jacob has a knack for always being in the right spot. He has a unique calmness to him when it comes to scoring goals. It seems so natural. He has scored just about every type of goal you could, right foot, left foot, headers, volleys you name it, he has done it.”
Despite his individual success Jacob remains laser focused on the team. With hopes of another deep postseason run, the senior standout strives to improve every day. Jacob is hoping to emulate Jonny one more time and help lead two Peoria Christian Soccer squads to State.
